Summary0012186: Affliction Warlock - Too few Tormented Souls at the beginning of boss fight
DescriptionThe algorithm to generate Tormented Souls is significantly different from Retail at the beginning of a boss fight, having negative impact on Soul Harvest burst phase and therefore overall damage.

You start the fight with Agony, Corruption, Siphon Life, Unstable Affliction, Unstable affliction... and right now you're supposed to activate the Tormented Souls together with Soul Harvest. However, on this server I often only have 1 Tormented Soul at this point of time, impacting my burst damage negatively.

How was it retail? Retail your Tormented Souls climbed very quickly at the beginning of the fight to 3 or more so you would have enough Tormented Souls for your Soul Harvest burst phase.

How sure am I that 3 or more Tormented Souls at the beginning of a fight are no coincidence? Very. I've kept many videos from Antorus mythic attempts happening on the same evening, and going through the list, EVERY video shows Tormented Souls climbing to 3+ right at the beginning. However, it would take me a lot of time to cut and upload these, and I would do this if necessary, but I hope that a couple of random warcraftlogs are enough, which I'm linking now.

On this server, you can clearly see that you often (not always) get the second and (at least) third Tormented Soul too late. This is an issue because this is your Soul Harvest phase.

I cannot prove anything wrong with the overall amount of Tormented Souls of the whole fight, but we need more souls right at the beginning to be able to use them with Soul Harvest. This was obviously intended by Blizzard.

"Souls are now reset to 0 at the start of an encounter. The buff is also canceled at the start of an encounter. Ulthalesh now has a greatly increased chance to generate the first three Tormented Souls at the beginning of a raid encounter.
Developers’ note: Souls are a resource, and we have a rules about resetting your resources/stacks of a buff before an encounter, so that every attempt is standardized. Having souls the first time you fight a raid boss feels good, but it makes every other attempt after that feel worse by comparison."

Unrelated to this ticket, I have found something else that at the moment does not make much sense to me. But again, this is unrelated to this ticket, please ignore. But everyone who is interested:

Browse retail warcraftlogs Varimathras normal or hc (without adds). Look at "Unstable Affliction" hits vs. casts. The hits include the ticks from proccs like tier set bonus or Fatal Echoes (artifact trait). Casts are what you really cast. Do the following math:

Hits (Tick + Critical Tick) / 4 = Complete amount of whole Unstable Afflictions including proccs (because 1 UA = 4 ticks). Subtract number of casts (so you know how many UAs were proccs) and divide this by number of casts (to get percentage).

Again:
(Hits / 4 - casts) / casts = Relation between UA proccs and cast UAs.

At first glance retail warcraftlogs show ~30% ... So when you cast 100 UAs you get 30 proccs combined from Fatal Echoes (6% or 12% if reap souls is up) and Tier set 2-piece bonus (8%)

When I look at my Argusx100 logs then the % seems to be much lower but I haven't gone through much data yet. For example 15% in this case https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/aj7hkPWc8BJmz2tf/#fight=27&type=damage-done&source=19

No proof or anything, just something that looks strange at first glance.

Hello,

Can you add any additional videos, a couple of them with timecodes where warlocks have 0-3 or 0-4 soul generation faster at the beginning of the fight.
Nevertheless, as soon as you add these videos - I will move the topic to the approved section.
