Summary0016822: Soul Barrier (DH tank talent) shield should not be breakable
DescriptionThe shield from the Soul Barrier talent should not break, the buff should last for the full 12 seconds. When it reaches the minimum absorb amount, the shield should continue to absorb that amount from every attack.

For example the shield shown in the screenshot would absorb 99.8k damage from every attack/DoT until the buff is over.

This bug makes DH tank a lot worse in mythic+ since they use this talent to mitigate damage from multiple targets.
Steps To ReproduceUse Soul Barrier and take enough damage, the buff will disappear.
Additional InformationTested on the fun realm in duels.

This video is the best explanation I could find, apparently the shield can be recharged after it takes damage by consuming additional soul fragments.

I'm not sure if there's a maximum absorb value that it can reach, it might be capped at the amount absorbed from 5 soul fragments.

well, about the maximum rechargeable absorb here is the question, you can create them quite often, if so, then the cap probably should be, but the information is needed, without this I will not be able to apply the fix

I checked the archived legion guides and they confirm that soul fragments consumed while the shield is active do add to the absorb. They don't mention a cap, suggesting you should generate as many fragments as possible to enlarge the shield.

Against a single target you can create about 7-9 additional fragments during the shield if you save the Soul Carver ability. Fragments take a while to generate so you can't create a huge shield within 12 seconds unless you're fighting a lot of enemies and get lucky with Fallout talent procs, so maybe Blizzard decided a cap wasn't needed.

after talking with other players of this specialization, it really won't be possible to create too many fragments of the soul in 12 seconds, and converting them into treatment all at once turns into consequences

This still seems to be bugged after the update. Once the shield reaches it's minimum absorb amount it remains visible on the health bar but stops absorbing any damage.

For example the shield in the screenshot should absorb around 100k from every attack after the initial 748k absorb is gone. I tested using an arcane mage without any damage buffs and Arcane Blast hit for 480k both without the shield and after it reached it's minimum amount - the residual absorption should have reduced it to 380k.

Small attacks like Nether Tempest which only does around 7k per tick should be completely absorbed by the unbreakable absorption shield of 100k, but were able to pass through it.

The Guardian Druid talent Brambles uses a similar unbreakable absorb mechanic.

You could think of the 99,816 minimum absorb on the screenshot as a much stronger Brambles, but with a 12 second duration (and no damage reflection of course).

I used this talent a lot during Legion and would usually activate the shield with 0 soul fragments, since the ~100k armor against all attacks was the important part. This was a very effective strategy against DoTs and trash mobs as they would hit you frequently for small amounts of damage, so -100k from each attack was very significant. The talent wasn't very good against big hits such as those from raid bosses, as reducing a big hit like 2 million by 100k is much less significant.
